With reference to your Despatch No. 396

of the 21st. November last, I have the honour to inform you

that the Royal Hongkong Yacht Club and the Hongkong Boat Club

have, for financial and other reasons, decided to amalgamate,

provided that the Government can see its way to make a free

grant to the amalgamated Clubs (under the style of the Royal

Hongkong Yacht Club) of the piece of foreshore and seabed

shown on the attached plan. On this site they propose to erect

a Club-house and a Boat and Yacht Yard and Slips.

This area is to the west of the site

formerly applied for by the Yacht Club, and is also somewhat

larger as it will have to accommodate what are at present two

Clubs, the combined Membership of which is about 400 Members.

With regard to the existing Boat Club, I

have to inform you that it has for some years been temporarily

accommodated in the compound of the Police basin at Tsim Sha

Tsui. It may at any time be necessary to require them to

evacuate this site, and as their funds are not sufficient to

enable them to purchase a site elsewhere it will be necessary

for the Government in such a case to provide them with one if
